Morrissey in Racism Trouble Once Again!
Via Pitchfork Media.
In a Guardian interview from last week, famously loose-tongued bard (and animal rights advocate) Morrissey had some harsh words for the Chinese: "Did you see the thing on the news about their treatment of animals and animal welfare? Absolutely horrific. You can't help but feel that the Chinese are a subspecies."
Since then, Moz has not apologized for the remark. Instead, he further stood up for his viewpoint, stating to the Guardian, "If anyone has seen the horrific and unwatchable footage of the Chinese cat and dog trade-- animals skinned alive-- then they could not possibly argue in favour of China as a caring nation. There are no animal protection laws in China and this results in the worst animal abuse and cruelty on the planet. It is indefensible."
Over the years, Morrissey has been tagged by some as racist due to lyrics and his comments on immigration. In 2008, the singer donated 28,000 pounds to Love Music Hate Racism, though the organization told the Guardian it would not accept money from him in the future if he did not apologize for his most recent controversial quotes. Perhaps we'll get some background on the issue when Moz finishes his autobiography, which is apparently "almost concluded," according to the Guardian piece.
He's always been so.... blunt.
