U2 add Nashville Date, does this rule out a possible stop at Bonnaroo?
According to Consequence Of Sound,Some potentially good/bad news for Bonnaroo-goers (depending on which side of the U2 @ Bonnaroo aisle you fall): Bono and Co. have just announced a July 2nd, 2011 concert for Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. As part of their forthcoming “U2 360″ North American leg, U2 will make a stop in the Music City for the first time in nearly three decades.
Tickets will run $30-$250, and go on sale Friday, October 29th at 10am CT via Ticketmaster, the Vanderbilt Sarratt box office, and LiveNation.com. UK pop band Florence and the Machine is scheduled to open, reports Tune In Music City.
Prior to the announcement, fans had speculated U2 as a possible headliner for Bonnaroo 2011 due to its noticeable gap in touring during the time in which the Tennessee based music festival typically takes place. Though we won’t know officially until Bonnaroo official unveils its 2011 lineup, U2’s Nashville date likely decreases the chance that the UK based outfit will headline next year’s festivities. The 2011 edition of the festival will take place just weeks prior to the Nashville concert and like most other festivals, Bonnaroo adheres to a radius clause. Well, there’s always Glastonbury…
In other news, slicing up eyeballs reports that U2 will release a new limited-edition, vinyl-only live EP next month called Wide Awake in Europe on November 26th. The 12″ will feature live versions of No Line on the Horizon’s “I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight” and “Moment of Surrender”, as well as “Mercy”, a track which was recorded during the How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb sessions. The band has been playing it live since September. The release will be limited to just 5,000 copies and will be released trough independent record shops in the U.S. as a Record Store Day-like promotion on the “Black Friday”.
