Watch Arcade Fire debut five new songs! It happened tonight on NBC!

Arcade Fire served as the musical guest on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live this evening, marking their first public performance behind their fourth studio album,Reflektor. The band played the album’s title track, which saw Régine Chassagne briefly trapped inside a reflecting box, plus debuted the song “Afterlife”. The band was joined by saxophonist Colin Stetson and Haitian percussionists, and each performance featured a unique costume, including Win Butler in Michael Stipe-esque face paint.

Win and Régine, along with Richard Reed Parry, also appeared in a really meta sketch called “New cast member or Arcade Fire?”, wherein host Tina Fey described Win Butler as “hipster Paul Bunyan, a Civil War reenactor, and a Serbian basketball player” and asked him to do a Robert Deniro impression. Following SNL, NBC aired a 30-minute concert special from the band entitled Here Comes the Night Time. Part concert film, part late-night hallucinogen, it combined footage from their recent trio of concerts at Salsatheque in Montreal alongside a serious of absurd cameos and skits featuring Bono, Ben Stiller, James Franco, Rainn Wilson, Bill Hader, Zach Galifianakis, Aziz Ansari, Michael Cera, who made a crack about Mumford and Sons. Three new songs were debuted: “Here Comes The Night Time”, “We Exist”, and “Normal Person”. Stay tuned for video.

Arcade Fire’s new album, Reflektor, arrives October 29th via Merge. It contains 13 tracks stretching 75 minutes.
