New Lay Me Down Video Sends Hopeful Message

Could it be possible for humans of all sexualities and genders could lay next to their lovers side without repercussions? Sam Smith says yes. His latest video expresses his opinion beautifully. Sam Smith, 22, know for his smooth powerful voice and equally beautiful lyrics released a music video for his ballad "Lay Me Down" off of his debut album In the Lonely Hour today.

The video follows Sam Smith and other unique patrons in a historic gothic chapel. Him and other attendees travel from one religious extreme to another, at first a funeral and later a wedding. Throughout, Sam Smith asks "Can I lay by your side, next to you?" begging for an ultimate answer that only time can answer.

In the Instagram post announcing the video release, Sam Smith explains his mission:
"Dear All, the Lay Me Down music video holds a very dear place in my heart. With this video myself and Ryan Hope the director have decided to make a statement and showcase something we passionately believe in. This vide shows my dreams that one day gay men and women and transgendered men and women all over the world, like all our straight families and friends, will be able to get married under any room, in any city, in any town, in any village, in any country. I hope you enjoy it. I love you all X"

Smith, an openly gay artist, has a unique view on his sexuality. He vocalizes his perspective in a recent article release by the New York Times:
“I didn’t want it to be ‘Sam Smith, the gay singer,’ ” he said, discussing how he dealt with revealing his sexual orientation. “I wanted it to be ‘Sam Smith, the singer who happens to be gay.’ ”Credit -Jessica Kourkounis for The New York Times

Sam Smith's humble personality, powerful voice, and passion for his fans and music attribute to his near instant success. On Sunday, he will be preforming at The Grammys. The British singer has six grammy nominations including Best New Artist and Best Album for In the Lonely Hour.
