5 Reasons We're Hyped About SAMF 2015

Spring Awakening is almost here! This Chicago Music Festival kicks off this Friday, June 12th. We've been waiting all year for this and we couldn't be more hyped. This festival has gained worldwide recognition for bringing in class-A acts and having all the right vibes. Take a look below at why we are so hyped about SAMF!

Historical Location

This world renowned stadium is more than just the home of the Chicago Bears. Since the grand opening in 1924 on the 53rd anniversary of the Chicago Fire, a variety of events have taken place in Soldier Field. Serving as a memorial to soldiers that have died during war time, it has housed numerous American football games, professional, collegiate, and even a high school match. The famous Jack Dempsey/Gene Tunney heavyweight rematch took place here in 1927; even rock concerts and festivals have been featured regularly. Soldier Field is amazingly the birthplace of the Special Olympic Games. President Franklin Roosevelt, evangelist speaker Billy Graham, and Martin Luther King are some of the huge names that have visited this iconic location. It is one of Chicago's most famous landmarks and for a great reason. The stadium is packed with history and it's fantastic that Spring Awakening is taking place in such a great location.

Some of EDM's Biggest Names are Headlining
The past few years, EDM has been on the rise. It's infiltrating our radio stations and our heads. Acts from around the world have become as well-known as the super pop sensations that we regularly hear about. Chicago is bringing in some huge names and we couldn't be more pumped. Expert mixers and masters of funk will be present to blow our minds. We have a great article featuring some of the headliner's recent hits and also included some of our favorites, accessible here. Visiting Chicago from around the world are Martin Garrix, Hardwell, Afrojack, and Tiesto from the Netherlands, Russia's Zedd, British DJ Duke Dumont, German Paul van Dyk, and even more acts from abroad and otherwise.

The Silent Disco
A new trend hitting festivals is the presence of the "Silent Disco." This interesting alternative to surround sound speakers blasting your eardrums to pieces provides the opportunity to not only jam out to the DJ, but also for conversation. Each person wears headphones where they control the volume and it possesses the crisp clear stereo sound no matter your position in the audience. The Silent Disco stage has DJs spinning all day and you won't want to skip out. Grab your friends and take part in this unique experience. Dance around, and even take your headphones off for a moment and watch the hilarity ensue.

Presence of Local Chicago DJs
Chicago DJs are also going to woo the crowd this weekend. What's great about festivals like this is that we get world-renowned acts but also have native representatives. It's all about the music and we love these Chicagoans. Take a listen to these local gems.
