New Neon Trees Single "Songs I Can't Listen To" and Tour Dates
Neon Trees never lets us down. Their songs constantly get stuck in our heads, but we don't mind. The new single is definitely one we CAN listen to! With its catchy chorus and relatable lyrics, it begs to be put on repeat. The video for "Songs I Can't Listen To" co-stars writer, director, producer, and LGBT rights activist Dustin Lance Black, who won the 2008 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Milk. Their performance goes from adorable to heartbreaking and tells a story of love and the ending of it.
The song depicts a subject nearly all of us can relate to. Going through a break-up is always difficult, but what makes it even harder is hearing a song that reminds us of an ex. I know I personally have a list of songs I can't listen to anymore; when one comes up on shuffle I hit the "next" button with lightning-fast reflexes and heaven forbid one plays in public. That will be the fastest you ever see me run. They can remind you of the good times, but also bring flashbacks of the hard times and make you want to fall to the floor or float up in the air like in the video (or something like that). Sometimes it's not just the past guys in my life that I'm reminded of, but also other experiences. Listening to the lyrics, I thought of them more broadly and suddenly remembered an embarrassing song I got a little too low to at a Middle School dance and ended up ripping my pants or even the one I bopped down the sidewalk to and tripped in front a large group of people, scarring me for life.
Listen to this heartfelt song below about a love story gone sour but also find your own meaning. I guarantee it will make it onto your summer playlist.
