New Lorde Single "Green Light" Is an Explosion
It's safe to say that in the past, 16-year-old Lorde put a lot of work into trying to seem as uninterested as possible in most things having to do with being a teenager. She sang about how "it's a new art form showing people how little we care," about how she wasn't a "white teeth teen," or a royal, how she didn't fit in with the crowd. She had more important things to care about.
Now, after what felt like an impossibly long wait, we seem to be getting a glimpse of those more important things, as the now 20-year-old singer belts out lyrics about love and desire in her new single "Green Light."
This single is a bit of a departure from past Lorde tracks - it's fast-paced, almost frantic. It makes you feel like running, or jumping, or driving fast with the windows down.
Despite the different sound, the song does have some classic Lorde motifs, such as the reference to teeth in lines like "Those great whites, they have big teeth."
With fast beats and energetic piano, "Green Light" is an explosion of emotion - one that we don't mind standing in the middle of. We can't wait to hear the rest of her new album, Melodrama, which is coming soon.
