Riot Fest Denver moving to new location after city denies permit

The Denver installment of Riot Fest currently finds itself without a home after Arapahoe County, Colorado denied a temporary-use permit to the festival on Friday, according to the Denver Post.

Update: According to a statement issued by the festival, a new location will be announced next week.

The festival was set to take place September 19th – 21st at May Farms in Byers, Colorado. However, country officials expressed doubts that the town of 1,000 residents could adequately handle the 17,000 people expected to attend the festival.

Arapahoe County Zoning Administrator Tammy King said Byers had “a general sense of being overrun with traffic and people” from Riot Fest’s 2013 iteration. “These impacts included residents having difficulty in getting their vehicles in and out of their driveways, substantial difficulties in traveling to obtain groceries and other essential services, difficulty in getting to and from work, (and) difficulty in conducting farm trucking activities.”

Riot Fest has 10 days to appeal the county. As of yet, festival organizers has yet to comment on the the county’s decision, or if they plan to find a new location.

This year’s Riot Fest Denver lineup boats The Cure, The National, Slayer, Wu-Tang Clan, TV on the Radio, The Flaming Lips, Weezer, and Social Distortion, among others.
