Zac Posen Wows at New York Fashion Week

Everyone on social media is buzzing about Zac Posen's Ready to Wear Fall 2015 collection, and they should be! Posen's designs are usually known for their cascading lengths, flowing fabrics, and voluminous silhouettes, yet the designs that debuted at his Grand Central Station showing featured streamlined silhouettes, pleating and structure. This, for me, is a welcomed shift in design elements Posen delivered to continue the growth of his hugely popular label.

 Addressing the this creative shift, Posen stated, "You’ve got to keep it surprising and add new styles and feelings to the vernacular. As an arc, we wanted the elegance of Grace Kelly meeting the spice of Chaka Khan.”

What I love about this collection is the versatility. The looks that paraded down the runway range from everyday wear to red carpet showpieces. The genius of Posen is that he designs for every woman. He featured pieces for the powerful business woman and the leading lady in a motion picture. The fluidity of his fashion story is carefully woven so that no woman feels she couldn't wear one piece in the collection. There is no extreme shock value in Posen's designs, and that in today's fashion is a shock in itself at times. Everything from fabric (mostly jersey) to the jewel toned palette is perfect for the fall season.

The show's showpiece, a structural ball gown worn by Naomi Campbell, was the buzz of New York Fashion Week. Now lets talk about this metallic masterpiece. The first time I saw it was when I received the picture posted above. I initially wondered what all the hype was about. I felt it made Naomi Campbell, a statuesque diva, appear irregularly small. The wide structured hips didn't really accentuate a small waist. The skirt seemed to swallow the legs. Her entire lower half seemed to be engulfed in a sea of maroon, leaving much to be desired.

THEN.... I saw filmed footage. The way Naomi carried the dress down the runway proved she was wearing the dress rather that the other way around as photos made it seem. Also the photos of Campbell with Zac Posen by her side give a better realization of the size of the dress, making Campbell look less small. While this made me rethink my initial opinion of this masterpiece, first impressions are what count and my first impression was that I liked some of the other dresses in the collection a little better.
